The chateaux of Vaux-le-Vicomte and Fontainebleau

Vaux-le-Vicomte… The little Versailles !
50 mn from Paris

Vaux-le-Vicomte has a singular history. The chateau was owned by Nicolas Fouquet, superintendent of finance under Louis XIV. During the 17th century no residence was able to rival it for beauty and grandeur. However, dazzled by so much splendor and jealous of such elegance,
Louis XIV had Fouquet imprisoned. He then drew on the beauty of Vaux-le-Vicomte to build the Palace of Versailles.

Both Vaux-le-Vicomte and Fontainebleau, located not far from one another, are the sites of remarkable châteaux the styles of which are completely different
and which are among the most beautiful monuments in the region.
